The
octane rating Myth - the Octane rating tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites.
If gas ignites by compression as opposed to the spark, it causes knocking in the engine.
If the engine isn't knocking - you're good to go.
Higher octane gas may not make it burn better, run
smoother, get better mileage. You're just burning up
cash. If you hear the engine knocking or pinging, then this gas is not the right kind for your motorcycle.
Gas Myth
- that higher octane fuel leads to better performance.
Most newer motorcycles have computers that prevent knock
and pinging by constantly adjusting the timing of ignition.
Sometimes premium is more inferior fuel than regular. High
octane resists knock because it's harder to ignite than lower-octane fuels.
Some engines start more quickly, and run smoother
regular, even though the manual says to run high test.
Higher octane
does not out perform regular octane in preventing
engine deposits from forming, in removing them, or in
cleaning your engine. |
