Savannah is one of those great trip destinations. A lot like Key
West in one way. You park it and walk it. River street is the strip.
Try to find a hotel near it, like the Days inn on Bay Street. River
Street - Crawl it or
walk it. It's a bumpy ride on a motorcycle. The ride to Savannah
takes about 3 1/2 hours from Daytona. Which makes it a great weekend
getaway.
Directions: Just hop on I-95 head north until you get to SR-16. Head
east and follow the signs. I-95 has never been a pleasant ride for
me (now many pine trees can you take), but sometimes, I just want to get there. (I've tried US 301 once
heading to Virginia I got as far as I could stand it - you have stop
signs at every I-95 exit.)
Where to stay: I've stayed at different hotels, but I now try
to stay near River Street. I like the Days Inn on Bay street because
it has covered parking, the rooms are nice, it's close to everything
and it has reasonable rates.
What to do: There's plenty to do in Savannah. It's
mostly a walking place, but the cabs are cheap. Explore! Walk the town, jump on the trolley,
take a cab. Visit the market. Savannah isn't a cheap, but it's a nice long weekend trip.
Walk around the shops in
Savannah's City Market. Take a tour
of the Mercer House (midnight in the garden of good and evil).
Take the trolley tour - you'll learn some great facts and
history about Savannah.
The Ghost Tour? Wasn't my cup of tea, but you might enjoy it.
Bars and Pubs:
Order a black and Tan at the Six Pence Pub,
across the street from the Desoto Hilton (245
Bull St). It's where they shot parts of the movie "Something to Talk About".
Catch the rest of the pubs on your way back to River Street. |
