Welcome to Measuring for a motorcycle helmet - fitting a motorcycle helmet.

Florida motorcycle training school - classes available - s classesDaytona Beach is lucky to have a motorcycle helmet manufacturer locally. We checked out Daytona Motorcycle Helmets and highly recommend them. We don't get a kick-back and we didn't even get a free helmet to show our students - hey, what's with that? But we did borrow their helmet fitting instructions and Helmet fitting chart - Thanks Daytona Helmet.

Helmet Sizing - How To Determine The Right Size Helmet

1. Fit cloth tape measure* snugly around widest part of head approximately 1" above the eyebrow, just above the ears and at the point on the back of your head that will give you the largest measurement for your motorcycle helmet size (see cute helmet girl - notice I didn't say smart - 1" above the eyebrows please).

2. Find your head size in the correct chart below, then you can order order the corresponding helmet size per the motorcycle helmet product sizing. We not giving you the link to "Daytona Helmets", or the "Helmet Shop Daytona". Bet you can find them on Google though.

3. Safety dictates that if your head size falls between two of the motorcycle helmet head size ranges listed, order the ser motorcycle helmet size as a motorcycle helmet must fit snugly.

*If you don't have a tape measure, you can use a piece of string.  Wrap the string around your forehead about where you want the helmet liner to rest.  Then use a ruler or yard stick to measure the string!

Helmet fitting Chart
Adult Hat Size Inches CM
XS 6-5/8 - 6-3/4 20-87 - 21.26 in. 53-54cm
S 6-7/8 - 7 21.27 - 22.05 in. 55-56 cm
M 7-1/8 - 7-1/4 22.06 - 22.83 in. 57-58 cm
L 7-3/8 - 7-3/4 22.84 - 23.62 in. 59-60 cm
XL 7-5/8 - 7-7/8 23.63 - 24.41 in. 61-62 cm
Helmet Sizing Tips

Your motorcycle helmet fit is critical to the comfort and enjoyment of your helmet. It also plays a critical role in the performance of your helmet in the event of a collision.

Never or wear a motorcycle helmet without making sure you have a proper snug fit (not too tight, and not too loose - just right!)

There are several methods and tricks to size a motorcycle helmet. We recommend the following method:

1. Estimate your size: Get a tape measure and our sizing chart. Start with a motorcycle helmet size you think will fit according to our measurements cross referenced to the chart.

2. Not too tight: Once you have your new motorcycle helmet in hand, put the helmet on by grasping the chin strap in each hand and pulling it on over your ears until you feel the top portion of the motorcycle helmet touch. Check for the following red flags: A. The motorcycle helmet immediately feels too tight. B. Your head does not touch the top of the motorcycle helmet. C. You can't pull the helmet down over your ears. D. It's painful in any way. If any of these apply, you probably need the next size larger.

3. Not too loose: Once you have found a motorcycle helmet that feels comfortable and snug, you must make sure that it is not too loose. To do this, securely fasten the chin strap, grasp the helmet chin bar or sides firmly with one hand and try to move the helmet from side to side and up and down. If the motorcycle helmet slides on your skin and hair, it is too large. If your scalp and skin want to move with the helmet, the fit is about right.

4. Just Right: One final check. Reach back to the back of the motorcycle helmet and try to rotate the helmet as far down and forward as possible. Then as far backward as possible. If the motorcycle helmet feels as if it might slide off in either direction, the motorcycle helmet is either too big or the chin strap was not securely fastened.
