The basic Motorcycle Training course teaches motorcycle riders the basic skills needed to safely ride a motorcycle. Volusia Motorcycle Training provides motorcycle training courses "Lessons" taught by professional, certified, friendly and knowledgeable rider coaches certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and the Florida Rider Training Program. Friday: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm (approximately) In room book study and note taking. Just classroom work, so you don't have to wear required safety apparel. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. Saturday: 7:15 am to 3:00 pm (approximately) Start out on the training range learning motorcycle basic handling, then back in-doors for book study and note taking. Take written exam and get ready for exam on range Sunday morning. You will have 1/2 hour for lunch. Sunday: 7:15 am to 3:00 pm (approximately) Start on the range to learn more advance motorcycle handling along with taking your riding exam. The day ends with receiving your certificate of course completion. This entitles you to receive your Florida Motorcycle license. Hugh H. "Harry" Hurt, who died of a heart attack on Nov. 29. He was 81. Professor Hurt was an award-winning author best known in the motorcycling community for conducting a benchmark motorcycle safety research study in 1981 entitled "Volume I: Technical Report, Motorcycle Accident Cause Factors and Identification of Countermeasures, January, 1981 - Final Report."

The Honda SMART Trainer or Safe Motorcyclist Awareness and Recognition Trainer is a computerized traffic simulator that allows beginning riders the opportunity to operate a motorcycle in real life situations without the real world consequences.

The Honda SMART Trainer uses state of the art software and actual Honda motorcycle controls to give the rider an opportunity to learn basic motorcycle control operations such as clutch, brake, throttle, and gearshift coordination in a computer simulation environment. It also offers intermediate or experienced riders the opportunity to operate in more risky traffic situations giving them a chance to evaluate and address the various safety scenarios in a controlled environment. The Honda SMART Device simulates 17 different riding scenarios. Two of the scenarios are for beginning riders: Clutch Operation & City Riding. The remaining 15 scenarios are hazard prediction courses testing the riders accident avoidance and prediction skills. Each of these scenarios can be run in 3 different modes: Day, Night, & Fog. In addition the Honda SMART Device offeres the rider a choice of operating a standard Manual Shift motorcycle or an Automatic scooter. In total the SMART Device offers 164 different operating scenarios, giving the rider many chances to get it wrong in simulation, but not in real life. With many different scenarios and real-life controls, the Honda SMART Device offers riders invaluable training in a structured environment.

Students will receive 20 minutes on the S.M.A.R.T. Device and 10 minutes of review with this course.
